Hey Tim,
It took five months for me to see this great response! Thanks for sharing, it is very helpful. I now have the car mechanically fit, and have been really enjoying driving it. I'm hesitant to start tearing it down to work on this and other rust issues, I know it wont be a quick fix....

I'll post images when the time comes.

Best,

T

I did this in my 69 MKII about two years ago.  I ended up getting the pieces from a 97+ mini that was being parted out.  Everything fits in like factory.  You will need to do some paint repairs around the rear window and the rear 1/4 windows as well.  Also, the rear 1/4 window latch mechanism flat plate is a slightly different shape to the newer cars so you will have to flatten the large c-pillar plate in this area (easy to do with a small hammer and vise - you'll see what I mean when you offer the new part up.)

Also, if you are trying to go for retractable belts, the later cars had the retractor in the rear pockets,  mounted to the front of the wheel arch.  This is another piece to look out for.  If you want to go all out, there is also a strengthening piece that mounts under the rear parcel shelf, below the c-pillar (top picture) and another one angling from the c-pillar panel down to the parcel shelf (bottom picture).  These were all on 97+ Mini's as far as I remember.  Oh, and don't knock my welds, I copied the factory stitch welds and locations .

I pulled this from the internet. Looks like it should be fairly obvious where to weld the brackets. Although the C-pillar bracket looks like it could potentially be a PITA, likely involving removing the rear windscreen and doing some inside and outside paint repair after welding. Whatever it takes to keep the kiddos safe, I guess.

Hi All,

I have a Mk2 and Ive been directed to install rear three point seat belts for the kids. Have any of you installed the 5 piece seat belt mounting kit? I’d love to see some install pictures.

https://www.minimania.com/part/SBMK001/Mounting-Kit-For-Rear-Seat-Belts---Weld-in-Brackets

It comes with no instructions and while it looks straight forward, I’d hate to weld up and be wrong.

Thanks in advance!!
