Can you clarify if this is an imported car, or a Canadian car?
MINIs sent to CA in 76 would have had a double filament circuit in the front amber lights. (which were mounted to the big front bumper) I don't think CA cars ever did have "pilot" lights (maybe very early cars)

As bikewiz says, you can replace the single filament bulb holder with a dual one and connect the running light circuit to the second filament. If you're running sealed beam headlights and don't have the extra pilot light bulb inside, the WIPAC Quadoptic Halogen headlights (with the sidelight) are a really nice upgrade. https://www.minimania.com/part/S4699B/Classic-Mini-Quadoptic-Headlight-Kit-For-Left-Hand-Drive
Make sure you get the left-hand drive version (doesn't matter which side the steering wheel is on) if you're driving on US roads.
You can use the internal pilot/sidelight for your daytime running light.

Putting the rocker switch in that position the rear red lights go on but the front amber ones do not. The bulbs and sockets are for a single filament and they do work with turn signal switch. This car had some very funky wiring adaptations by previous owners which I have cleaned up but am a bit confused on the front running lights unless they didn't have them which makes no sense.
