CA
Can you clarify if this is an imported car, or a Canadian car?

MINIs sent to CA in 76 would have had a double filament circuit in the front amber lights. (which were mounted to the big front bumper)  I don't think CA cars ever did have "pilot" lights (maybe very early cars)

As bikewiz says, you can replace the single filament bulb holder with a dual one and connect the running light circuit to the second filament. If you're running sealed beam headlights and don't have the extra pilot light bulb inside, the WIPAC Quadoptic Halogen headlights (with the sidelight) are a really nice upgrade. https://www.minimania.com/part/S4699B/Classic-Mini-Quadoptic-Headlight-Kit-For-Left-Hand-Drive
Make sure you get the left-hand drive version (doesn't matter which side the steering wheel is on) if you're driving on US roads.
You can use the internal pilot/sidelight for your daytime running light.

The fronts have pilot lights in the main light unit. The amber lights only work on the blinker circuit. You can wire North American spec dual filament sockets into the front so it will be more like what we're used to in the the US- amber on with the lights-blink with mains on or off.
