Mini Mania would like to introduce our new MTD Kit. No need in extending your Mini for this swap. This kit allows you to fit the Honda D-Series engine into your Mini without any external body modifications. The MTD Series was designed to install Honda’s D Series SOHC engines into the Classic Mini (1959-2001), upgrading the Classic Minis A-Series engine with today’s most trusted engines built by Honda. With four times the horsepower of a stock Mini 850 and a thousand times the reliability, you might realize the reason for the swap. Reliability and knowing that your car will run in any condition is a great feeling to have everyday. Have fun with your Classic Mini.

Mini Mania has taken all of the headaches out of this engine swap by developing the MTD subframe. Specifically designed for the Standard length Mini and the Honda D Series engine, the MTD subframe mounts directly to the Mini using the two stock Mini tower front subframe mounting bolts, then the Honda engine mounts directly to the subframe using the hardware and brackets that are supplied with the Kit. It is as simple as that!

What's In The Kit

The MTD Kit comes with the upper and lower suspension arms. And, they are custom made just for the MTD Kit, so no more 1959 antique suspension on your Mini. Our new kit also comes with the 400hp rated axle shafts that you will need to cross over your Mini CV joint to the Honda joint. Other items are included as well. The All New MTD Series Kit from Mini Tec means out with the old slow bumpy ride and in with the new smooth Super Fast and Reliable ride!

The MTD Kit Includes the following:

- MTD Subframe,
- RH and LH Upper Suspension Arms,
- RH and LH Adjustable Lower Suspension Arms,
- 2 Custom Hybrid Axle Shafts,
- Detachable Cross-member Bar for extra strength,
and all of the Hardware and Instructions that you will need for the Honda D Engine Installation.

Question:
Is using a conversation kit like this possible on an automatic based mini? Obviously you'd need to convert the vehicle to manual; but what headaches are involved with that? Is most of the mounting for the clutch, shifter, etc. existing on all models, or is there welding/fabricating needed?
Answer:
It would mostly be the linkages. The transverse mounting points are the same on the auto's as the 4 speeds manuals. Can't say there will be no headaches but there should be no more than installing a vtec on a rod-change or remote shift car.

Question:
Is there any form of this that works with a Honda automatic attached, or will it only work with a manual transmission powertrain?
Answer:
Due to the size, only the standard trans will work.

Question:
I currently have a honda civic with a D16V1 SOHC engine with only 30k miles which is crazy for a 2003 car. I am looking at buying a classic mini to engine swap this low mileage engine into. Will this kit fit any A-series engine mini and will this engine fit the kit and the mini without extending the front?
Answer:
You can install either the B or D series Honda's and retain the front nose.

Question:
Is the kit bolts-on or does it need rigging/fabrication? (the whole process even for engine installation)
Answer:
This is designed as a bolt-in. This is just a frame kit, so you will need to deal with all of the other components you will need.  You might watch the 2 videos we have on the website so you get an idea of what's involved.

Question:
I'm looking at your MTD kit, I'm in the UK just seeing if you can ship it over and if so do you have a price?
Answer:
The last kit we sent over was apx. $600.00. But today if may be a bit more, depending on which kit and todays freight cost, but that should be close.
What we do is fly it into the closest major airport, there you would pick it up and clear any customs or duties.

Answer:
Yes, the MTD kits are specifically made to put a D16 in your Mini. They work with stock Mini hubs so your original brakes will work - or any other brakes you run from Cooper S discs or later model 8.4 discs depending on your wheel size.
